Migraine and Navigating the Disability Process | AMF Webinar
Social security disability insurance (SSDI) can provide much needed support for people who are unable to work due to migraine. However, the application process is often filled with time delays, denials and other challenges that prevent people from accessing this benefit.
During this educational webinar, Dr. Dawn Buse, Dr. Robert Shapiro, patient advocate Qasim Amin Nathari and lawyer Stacy Monahan Tucker discuss everything to know before applying for SSDI for the best possible outcome, including application steps that are specific to migraine and how to appeal a denial. At the end, they open the floor to questions from the live audience.

Getting a bit nervous about these episodes I've bee having for the last couple of days. Don't ever think I had a cluster headache before last week. Got really ill with a virus for a few days, suddenly pressure in my ear, cluster headaches frequently, and what feels like stuffed sinuses and lymphs.

I'm doing my best to cater to my wife, but it's like it's never good enough. One day she say I'm the best husband ever two days later I'm in the dog house due to some circumstances that you have no control over. I don't understand. She says I'm not listening to her when she wants to talk and that i don't understand her, but somehow for whatever reason it's my fault what ever the situation may be.

I'd like to share what worked for me. What you are describing is worse than the migraines I get...however, I think this will work for cluster headaches...this may seem too simple and you may think to dismiss it, but because of how it worked for me, I am convinced it can work for you. 3 things: Most likely your body has contaminants like heavy metal, so stop using any non-stick pots and pans and the like (basically, remove the source of contaminants; Do simple detox that includes soaking in baking soda and pink hamalizan salt or sea salt (you will find examples on youtube); And finally, add magnesium to your diet; in supplements yes, however if you really want success, have a raw vegan diet along with a good magnesium supplement ....its easy to say this wouldn't work, but, try it for yourself. Off-course, its like building muscles, its takes persistent consistency, so be encouraged.

You should always take D3 with K2. (K2 distributes D3 properly to the bones and other places so it is not building up in the arteries!) I developed arthritis (sausage toes, morning stiffness etc.) after a car accident that wasn't my fault mind you, and after learning about Boron and D3/K2 from Dr. Berg online, i started taking 50,000 IU of D3/K2 DAILY. Yes, you read that right, dont make me repeat it!!! It is safe and anyone with a chronic or crazy autoimmune condition needs to FLOOD their body with it and needs a dose far higher than a maintenance dose that a healthy person would take. I reversed my condition completely with 50,000 IU daily after two months. Believe it.

I've had cluster headaches for about 40 years and at times it's been sheer hell. That said, a couple of years ago I was given a greater occipital nerve block (often referred to as a GON block or just a nerve block). What a life saver! I've not had any cluster headaches since. A GON block is an injection of local anaesthetic and steroid around the greater occipital nerve (GON), at the back of the head and top of the neck, designed to reduce the inflammation of tissue and relieve headache. It's literally changed my life as I was in a very bad way.

“The fear I felt, the sadness that overcame me as the pain worsened would often send me into a deep depression.” exactly. the pain itself is excruciating. but add to that the exhaustion after a headache and the fear of the next one, the isolation of having to lock yourself away for weeks or months at a time, and the suffocating misery of doing this over and over again… unfortunately i have yet to find a decent treatment.

I have clear "swirls" in my vision about 20x per day, everyday in only rt eye for four+ years. These swirls are painless, but are different than a classic migraine aura. Used to have headaches as a kid, but do not have the headache pain now. Very frustrating. Thanks, doc

Definitely some great hacks for me to adopt. I currently don’t have a migraine bag but I’m going to create one. The soda can is a quick easy one. A somewhat costly option is an eye massager device. I use the Eyeris 3, which I purchased during the holidays for a discount. Either heat or ice can be added. Castor packs with heat give me some relief also. And using a neck light to use less light at night or in dark rooms.

But just lately I've been experiencing one sided headaches which was so severe..it even wakes me from sleep. I thought it was just migraine just in different form. and I suffered from dizziness too everytime I have them. Just last week, I felt like the right side of my skull was being pierced with a knife...my right eye was so so painful i had tears coming out of it.... Yesterday I woke up dizzy so i just stayed in bed, as everytime I moved I wanted to throw up... then at about 9pm, those piercing pain on the right side began, then my right eye started to hurt, even my right cheek and temple were throbbing... I wanted to cry from the intense pain but i knew it wouldnt help... it lasted maybe 2 hours or more...

In my case it took 4yrs until being diagnosed with Chronic Cluster headache, by a professor of Neurology at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham UK. Daily lithium dose helps reduce the cycle frequency, and Sumatriptan injections along with high flow oxygen helps keep the suffering to a more manageable level. More people win the lottery than being diagnosed with this condition. The condition needs to be renamed, as the word “headache”, does not correctly describe what sufferer’s have to entail. It’s important to stray strong, eat well, and exercise when possible! If you’re here because you’ve been diagnosed, then congratulations! With the correct medication It only gets better from now. You will get that life back you fought you had lost. Stay strong everyone!

I have sleep apnoea and use an Airsense 10 CPAP machine every night. Every few weeks I'll get a severe migraine, usually kicks off about 2am and absolutely ruins me for the whole day. I have to call in sick, have immense sharp pain in my head, pain killers and heat pillows take the edge off enough to be able to sleep and recover but I feel totally exhausted and gutted for hours or a day afterwards and I get regular headaches on a Saturday morning too. I work Monday to Friday, am up at 2.30am every day for work, do usually 10-12hrs in a physically hard job that also involves a lot of driving and often not into bed until 9-10pm....so only really getting thrs sleep a night during the week. So what's happening to me for these headaches to occur? The My Air app tells me I'm having around 9-10 events every hour on the nights I get these severe migraine attacks. So I'm assuming due to exhaustion and stress that's kicking off the events causing me to get less oxygen and in turn sets off rhe migraine and leaves me exhausted, in pain and totally gutted taking hours to recover the next day??

I can tell you they are excruciating and peculiar. They'll occur at the same time of day sometimes for days in a row, maybe longer. They'll come on fast and hit like a freight train, like a hot poker searing the inside of your brain from your eye to about your ear on one side of your head. Your eye may droop and water. Your nose may run. You may begin to rock back and forth and hit your head on something, maybe as a natural reaction to disrupt the feeling if only for a second. You might groan and moan and hit things. Sometimes it's hard to be still; it feels like you have to move and have to rock back and forth. It's very intense and very painful. I've used oxygen for the last couple clusters I've had, and I think it works to get the headache to go away more quickly. Not much else seemed to for me, but I may not have tried as many treatments as others. I get the clusters about once every 2 years, and I just started one last night - had a precursor headache around midnight that woke me up and then another a couple hours later that was more like a normal cluster headache. If you suffer from them, don't give up. I know terrible thoughts may enter your mind when you're having one, but remember, it won't last forever, and yes, you are stronger. Hang in there. Be tough. Love you guys.
